FAQ

What does 'Margi' mean?

Margi is short for marginalized. In my native language, Dutch, "marginalized" often has an awful connotation which I find rather narrow-minded. Other terms such as: outliers, outsiders, non-conformists or alternative thinkers can also be used to describe a "margi". And thus the name for my one-man business with hand-drawn, alternative designs was born.

Where do you get the designs?

I draw them myself!

Every design on this webshop is hand-drawn. Most of them start old school as pen-and-paper drawings and end up being finalized on tablet. I always start from scratch and work until I have a high quality, printable design.

As a fan of tattoo styles like to use techniques in my illustrations practiced by tattoo artists such as stipple shading.

Why do your products have a long delivery time?

To help limit the abundance of fast fashion waste I have decided to go for print on demand, which means there is no stock of the products you see on this website.

The products only come into existence once an order is placed, which is why it takes a bit longer to deliver it to you. By choosing a Margi product you help reduce overproduction and the pollution caused by fast fashion waste.

Why print on demand?

Sustainability is important to me. I try to be as green as possible, all while producing the quality products you deserve.

Around 85% of all textiles produced by the fashion industry end up in landfills, making it a major contributor to environmental damage. Even more, one in every five items produced by the fashion industry reaches landfills without being worn even once.

When choosing Margi you KNOW the product is especially made for you, when you order. This means no overproduction and no waste!

Are your products Vegan-friendly?

Yes, all products are vegan.

As I use the print on demand method (see above) I rely on information of my supplier, you can find the source here for blank products:

About the ink:

The inks used for printing (Kornit Water-based and NeoPigment) are Oeko-Tex™ certified, vegan, water-based, and free of harmful chemicals.

What size do I need?

Every product has it's own sizing-chart on the productpage. Some designs are 'oversized' or a bit smaller then you would expect. If that's the case there is a small disclaimer on the productpage.

How do you print designs onto apparel?

Most of my products are printed with the direct-to-garment (DTG) technique, which is a printing method where ink is first sprayed directly onto the garment, and then it soaks into the fabric. It’s like printing on paper, but on clothing.

Are these inks safe?

Yes.... And even more!

The inks we use for printing (Kornit Water-based and NeoPigment) are Oeko-Tex™ certified, vegan, water-based, and free of harmful chemicals. They can even be used on children's clothing!

About embroidery

The embroidery is done with Oeko-Tex™ certified threads, meaning they are as safe and eco-friendly as the inks!

To what countries does Margi ship?

At the moment I only ship in Europe.

Is your packaging eco-friendly?

All products are packed in post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic
mailers. PCR packaging is made from everyday items, like used plastic bags and bottles. This material protects your order just as well as regular plastic bags, however, choosing PCR over first-use plastics reduces the environmental impact plastic has on our planet.
